About the Task Force
The Commissioner of Education created a Task Force on Holocaust Education and appointed members to serve on the Commission after legislation was passed in the State of Florida, which mandated the teaching of Holocaust instruction in grades K - 12. The Task Force serves as an advisory group to the Commissioner of Education and coordinates Holocaust education activities on his behalf. A message from the Chair...
I am very proud that this website has been established in order to facilitate compliance of FLORIDA STATUTE 1003.42 – Required Instruction of the Holocaust.
The website has been specifically designed to assist school district professionals and support staff in teaching the history of the Holocaust. Study of the Holocaust leads to an investigation of human behavior; an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping; and an examination of what it means to be a responsible and respectful person.
The website helps fulfill the Task Force’s mission to encourage tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values. Information about training programs, curriculum materials, resources, events and links to all of Task Force’s Designated Sites are provided.
