About the Task Force

The Commissioner of Education created a Task Force on Holocaust Education and appointed members to serve on the Commission after legislation was passed in the State of Florida, which mandated the teaching of Holocaust instruction in grades K - 12.  The Task Force serves as an advisory group to the Commissioner of Education and coordinates Holocaust education activities on his behalf.  To learn more about the Florida Department of Education, please visit their website, www.fldoe.org

A message from the Commissioner...Commissioner Bennett

“Throughout the span of history, humans have shown both contempt and compassion for one another. The Holocaust was a time of tragedy and today serves as an example of both the atrocities and the altruism that exists within humankind."

“We must teach our children to be respectful and responsible people, to treat others with dignity and tolerance, and to nurture the democratic values and institutions in our country and global society. Though it may be heartbreaking and difficult to teach of the unthinkable horrors that transpired, we must also focus on the many selfless acts of sacrifice and inspiring stories of hope that occurred during the Holocaust. All of these lessons are crucial to ensuring peace and justice in our diverse world."

“I applaud the Task Force on Holocaust Education for their continued dedication for this cause and support for educators teaching about the Holocaust.”
